Fundraising total announced by Sport Relief

In March 2012, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council officers teamed up with officers Blaby District Council to organise the Sport Relief Mile at Leicester Racecourse in Oadby.

The day was a fantastic event, with the weather being extremely kind, and over 1,000 local people turned up to run or walk 1, 3 or 6 miles for Sport Relief charities. Cross Counties Radio kept the day running with music and interviewed participants, and Nic Appleton and Leona Knott warmed up the masses with their Zumba and stretch routines. There was food and drink stalls, free inflatable attractions, Sainsburys provided t-shirts and other Sport Relief goodies for people to buy, and Thurmaston Marching Brass opened the event, and also 'marched the mile'.

Sport Relief have been collecting in all sponsorship and entrance money, and we are delighted to announce that the event at Leicester Racecourse raised a huge:

£27,434.14

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the event, and also the many volunteers and helpers wo gave up their time to make the event happen, as well as Leicester Racecourse for being fantastic hosts. Sport Relief Returns in March 2014.
