Oadby and Wigston Awards 2018
Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Everyone Active and the Local Sport Alliance 'Active Oadby & Wigston', have teamed up once again to host the prestigious 'Oadby and Wigston Awards Evening, 2018':
The annual Oadby and Wigston Awards Evening will be returning on Wednesday 21 November 2018 at Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby (5:30 p.m. for 6:00 p.m. start).
We would like to encourage local residents, clubs, groups and schools to recognise the achievements of our community by completing a nomination form for one or more of the categories listed.
NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN and can be submitted via the online form (found at the bottom of this page).
The awards focus on the achievements from the 1st September 2017 to 31st August 2018 with exception of the 'Unsung Hero' award which is not restricted to this 12 month period.
The deadline for nominations is Monday 8 October 2018. All nominees must either live, attend school, volunteer or represent a club/group from within the Borough of Oadby and Wigston.
Short listed nominees will be invited to attend the Awards Evening on Wednesday 21 November. All category winners will be put forward for the Leicester Mercury awards later in the year.
You will need to gain permission from the person or team you are nominating.
Please note you only need to nominate an individual or team once. Nominations are not judged on number of votes they receive. Only one submission will be required.
The categories for the Oadby and Wigston Awards 2018 are as follows:
Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year
This award is for an individual aged 16 or over, who has achieved success at a regional, national or international level: exceeded expectations in their sporting performance or made a significant difference to a team.
Junior Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year
Aged under 16 on 31 August 2018, this award is for a young individual who has made significant progress in their field of sport, exceeded expectations in their sporting performance or made a significant difference to a team
Disabled Sportsman / Sportswoman of the Year
This award is for an individual who has had a significant impact on disability sport; overcome barriers to excel in sport; acts as a role model for other disabled people.
Physical Activity Participation Award
This award is for individuals or community groups that have improved the health, well being or physical ability of themselves or others. This may include facing and overcoming personal barriers and challenges, or inspiring others to take up new challenges to achieve their own goals. This is an open aged category.
Adult Coach / Instructor of the Year
This award is for a qualified coach or instructor (paid or voluntary) , aged 18 or over who through their passion for sport or physical activity has made a significant impact by increasing participation , inspiring others and provided the highest standard of coaching/instructing to achieve positive results.
Junior Leader/ Coach / Instructor of the Year
Aged under 18 on 31 August 2018, this award is for an individual who has shown outstanding commitment to leadership in a sport/ physical environment and given their time and energy to achieve positive results.
Adult Team / Club / Group of the Year - Elite
A team, group or club who are aged 18 or over, who have achieved success or competed at a constantly high level throughout the year; demonstrated fair play and a good sporting attitude.
Adult Team / Club / Group of the Year - Community
A team, group or club who are aged 18 or over, who have positively influenced the lives of its members or the wider community through the use of sport or physical activity.
Junior Team / Club / Group of the Year
A team, group or club who are aged under 18 on 31 August 2018. This award is for a club or team that has achieved success or competed at a consistently high level throughout the year; demonstrated fair play and a good sporting attitude.
Unsung Hero Award
This award is not restricted to the last 12months
This award is for an individual who has contributed significantly to school / community sport or physical activity and gone the extra mile to enable others to participate. An individual who works tirelessly behind the scenes encouraging and supporting others.
In addition to the Categories listed above, there will also be a further award on the evening; the 'Everyone Active Member of the Year' Award, which will be determined by the Everyone Active team.
